  • OEM 19" M3 wheels in shadow chrome

    as below
Would anyone here be interested in a set of OEM E46 M3 19" alloys, refurbed in shadow chrome?

Been thinking about having a set done.

They will be the same price, £625, and freshly refurbed, unfitted, unmarked.

Inside of the wheels will be black, as per the S54 MC wheels and the E39 M5 wheels (OEM spec)

Just seeing if theres anyone up for it before I get some done

Ive got a set that are going onto my own M3 which have been done in this finish, so will take pics to show what they are like incase anyone is interested!

No probs Matt! see the info ive written

Ive never questioned the finish enough to know the complete process of shadow chrome! but I imagine that the first coat of black is powder coated, and the face is painted afterwards (and then lacquered!)

You're right about the diamond cut finish, it will never last forever due to stonechips breaking the lacquer shield, which leads to exposure (moisture/water gets in, spreads, thats the end of them!)

Also some people use harsh cleaners which damage the lacquer, and others end the wheels lives early by kerbage

Painted finish is best for durability, but its understandable that owners of M3's usually want the original looking finish, which ultimately works out to be polished, or diamond cut (diamond cut looks the closest to the OEM finish. The factory job was actually polished, then lacqeured! nobody that I know of, replicates that finish absolutely 100% accurately, or even anywhere near haha.)

            Cheers

Thanks Indy. Sorry to hijack your thread (I can go pvt if you prefer) does this mean that shadow chrome is less robust than just a standard powdercoat ? I ask because I may refurbish my winter wheels this summer, and I cant decide on which way to go.

I cant see the durability on shadow chrome, being any different to a standard colour finish.
I have used shadow chrome wheels throughout all weathers on plenty of different cars, and had no problems with them at all.

Whenever I clean wheels on my own car, its just a simple wash and wax mix (using a small sponge!) I never use any harsh chemicals, just a pressure washer. If washed once a week or so, theres never any difficulties removing the road crap off them

                    see below:

i am selling the actual set off my own M3

im replacing them with some diamond cut OEM wheels, so will no longer be needing these (replacing with standard finish, as the weather is getting better and im planning to get round to selling the car. i want to make it more appealing to potential buyers)

priced at £599 and will take an offer?
(they are used and have been fitted to a car, so have some tiny tyre machine marks on the edges, but no kerb rash! not so visible when tyres are fitted)

                    just the bare wheels.

will take Z3M wheels in px, if anyone is up for that?
