Fantastic lap! It takes some commitment to run at those times, something that doesn't always come across on video so is often hard to appreciate if you haven't been to the Ring as it's soo demanding due to the length of the lap. Would have been awesome to have been then and done some laps together to see if I could keep up! I think 2 M Coupes going round at that kind of pace would have been quite a sight.

Notice you're using Pilot Cups, have you used R888s as a comparison?

        Thanks!

As you say those laps doesnt come too often.
This trackday was really good, think I did 6-7 laps out of 15 under 8 min BTG.

Unfortunately I forgott to turn off my GoPro so the memory filled up and didnt record my fastest lap

Anyhow It was a great day

I have been running R888 but it was during my first visit in with the Z3 at the ring back in 2007.
Hard to say but I think the MPSCs lasts longer and have a little better speed.
Nowdays the price difference is not that big so its "cheaper" to go for the Michelins

That tallies from what I've read. M3 CSL owners stick to the Cups instead of R888s because they're say the Cups are faster with better wear, just I can't get the Cups in my sizes (or at least very hard to get hold of). I've been using 2nd hand R888s for the past couple of years due the costs of the R888s are too high too!

I want to try and do another trackday there next year sometime!

Honestly, this is awesome. Many bf.com forum members are always going on and on about the Honda S2000 at the ring, but you my friend have crushed that....They always push in my face that the M Coupe only does 8:22 at the ring...and they are Zed owners believe it or not.

I wish there was a way to find out what the fastest M Coupe lap really is...

8:22 is correct for the M Coupe, 8:39 for the S2000.

What Frixen Z3M posted is not a full lap, it´s a BTG lap.

                        Hey

What "sk8flex" says is correct, the 7:54 is a BTG time.

Basically you can say there are three ways of measuring lap times at the Nordschleife.

                        BTG: Bridge to Gantry
SA: Sport Auto lap (its the full lap minus a small straight by T13)
                        Full lap

The 8:22 laptime for Z3M is the so called Sport Auto lap (from the "Sport Auto" magazine) They test cars with this SA lap as reference.

With my car its like this (my best lap)
                        Full lap: 8:16,5
BTG: 7:50 (with my car=321hp GTB is approx 26,5 seconds. with more power this distance is of course faster)
that would make the SA lap approx 8:10,5 (normally 6 seconds faster than a full lap, only a little bit faster if you have loads of power due to the short straight)

From what I have seen all "full" laps seem to miss out the short T13 straight, maybe SportAuto set this standard so the times can be compared better. I read somewhere that often SA laps are done on "sports" tyres, but it does make you think how good the pros are if they did the 8m22 on the OE tyres and suspension! I'd roughly calc'd a full lap at 8m18 off one of my laps and our cars (I think) are similar spec, even the 3.46 diff (which I think it makes it much nicer to drive on track).

In a lightly modified M Coupe on semi slicks
9mins [BTG] is a brisk pace and easily achieved with some knowledge of the Ring
8m30 is pretty quick and not much slower than the V10 Ring taxi was doing when I last did TF in 2008/9 (4-up of course)
8m15 is doable on TF quite easily with light accommodating traffic
8m requires commitment and a clearish track
~7m50 perhaps the limit for non-pros with our cars? (without serious mods), after one lap like this you look forward to that long Dottinger straight for a
                          quick rest

The trackday I did there earlier this year was the VLN layout so it was tough on driver and car to do 2 laps consecutive (about 32miles) - imagine a 24hr race there!!!

                            very awesome vid!
The 3.46 diff seems very help on the hills and med curves, but i think it's too short on the road...

I only think it feels a bit short on the motorway, other than that it's perfect as the standard 3.15 just feels too long on a/b-roads and on track. At the Ring it is actually a bit too short for the long straight (requires red lining in 5th for half the length) if you are doing a full lap.

Ideal setup is a 3.46 or even 3.64 with a 6sp box though! Only slight problem with BMW gearbox ratios is the 1st is too short so with the lower diffs it gets quite noticeable, would prefer longer 1st and closer gap to 2nd.
