  • Seat rotation

Happy new year to all! I'm a new member here and doing some research before purchasing a m coupe. Such wealth of knowledge here and I am working my way through it.

My question relates to the seats and cannot find a topic in the search. If I did not look well enough could someone kindly point out the relevant thread/s

Since many of the driver's side seats are a bit worn in comparison to the passenger side, is it possible to remove them and rotate so that the old passenger seat is now the new driver's seat? Is it just a matter of un bolting and unplugging, and then reattaching? Or is it more complex than that, i.e different sensors in the seats?

    Thanks!

The seat frame is obviously different, but you can unbolt the seat from the frame, whether they are symmetrical I'm not sure. Also, there will be a difference might be the back tilt release lever. I did do this to my 205GTi but the seats were somewhat simpler! and the seat back tilt knob just became on the inside not the outside of the seat, but it wasn't an issue as it was still accessible.

If the wear you are annoyed by is a rocking motion under braking and hard cornering, then I believe you can fit new seat bushes to solve this annoying problem.

I doubt you can swap seats from side to side easily, but as stated above with enough swapping of parts it is probably, in theory, possible.

      Good luck

I don't remember if it was on this forum or another, but I recall someone in Turkey who rotated his seats when he restored his m coupe. There were no details about how he did it sadly enough.

I also did not realize that the back tilt lever is on the backrest part of the seat. If this is the case it would not be a practical idea.

However, if the back tilt lever is part of the controls on the plastic base of the seat, then would moving just the seat (separated from all the controls) be possible?

I am still in the middle of my research before jumping in and buying the m coupe, and trying to be well versed in what I have to check and what needs to be done, and also what things I can feasibly do to 'refresh' some bits and bobs.

I have read about the movement back and forth of the seats due to the worn out rubber bushings and the delrin fitment cure. I was more asking if the seats can just be swapped between passenger and driver without too much hassle and cost. To repair/repad the cushion will cost a bit more, but the leather restore can be done with some color dyes and conditioners I believe.

I intend to use such a product!

Usually the passenger side seat has less wear plus the cushions are in better state, that is why I am thinking about switching them around.

Yes, it's possible. Check out my roadster journal (Nov 09 post); this shows you how to do it and how to sort the backrest control, seat occupancy sensor etc.
