Hi chaps i am new to this forum and here is my new project, i picked it up last weekend and one the way home i ran out of gears

I have purchased new slave cylinder and a braided clutch hose from Earls, but could be clutch on the way out.

The car comes with torn boot floor

The engine bay needs a good tidy up

And the car up on axle stands in my garage

I will update as progress is made, cheers Chris

Boot floors looks fairly bad, not the worst, but definitely quite progressed as tell-tale noises appear before the boot separates like that. All fixable though as the area is quite easy to work on once stuff is out of the way.

Not sure on the clutch, normally they are very durable so could be hyrdraulic like you're trying.

Gearbox takes a while to get used to!new oils, braided hose, weighted knob sorts it !boot looks typical...but is an easy fix, also renew the diff hanger!

That looks like the most "unloved" MC I have seen, hope it was cheap!

              Chris

I love the workshop photo, it's dark outside so this time of year means you are up late working on the car....bag of spammers on the floor, coffee mug, ciggie pack on floor and box of matches under the fuel tank.....awesome

Looks like a very involving project and looking forward to seeing this car restored to its former glory.

Know what you mean about the gears. Amazed at how quickly 6 becomes the norm, but Ive found adapting down to 5 quite good fun as you get to stir the gearbox a bit

Have a look at this thread (post #103) which shows BMW's repair panel/diff hanger

An über strengthening kit is made by Randy Forbes who's on here I think. Utilizes a twin ear diff cover off god knows what BMW variant and some chunky hangers. Some subframe poly bushes or fillers will stop alot of the forces being transferred to the hanger when it the time comes to bung it all back.

                          In all it's glory.

It's $575.00 according to his blog but that was probably back in 2012.

                          I'm definitely considering it.

I am confident the lads that are gonna do my floor are gonna do a proper job, they are currently fabricating a whole new floor for a 76 XJ6

Anyway my mate Rob came around today to do the clutch, gearbox out and found that the Thrust bearing was melted.and the Clutch down to studs.

We now have a new Sachs clutch and gearbox back on, new prop shaft doughnut coming tomorrow, things are looking up.
