I think the best way to describe it is as needing some TLC. Engine ticking on idle, which I guess is the valve clearances but goes OK.
The owner didn't have a V5 in his own name when I saw it despite claiming it was purchased from a BMW dealership in the Midlands. The previous owner before that had only owned it for a few months so has had 3 different owners in last 9 months!
I bought this car, tlc being the attraction ... I've just finished a TVR Chimaera resto and wanted something to improve over winter.
I've done a few hundred miles to check there's nothing catastrophically wrong and it's behaved well ... You'll have read in the ad that the clutch was suspect (and Dave, you've driven it) so it's now in my garage getting the works. A new dual mass flywheel, clutch kit, braided clutch hose etc. I'm also doing the crank oil seal and 'box gate bushes while its apart for peace of mind (and to satisfy a slight ocd streak).
I've not noticed the ticking myself but may take it somewhere like Forza for a check inc vanos etc as I'm new to M engines.
It goes well, takes some getting used to though after the V8 TVR where low down grunt is always there in boatloads ... But with a much lower safe rev limit!
Nice to have both and compare, I've always fancied a Z3M coupe so the itch is getting scratched...
Cheers, I kicked myself that I didn't check whether the v5 was in his name until I'd paid ... One of those things, I'm usually sharper than that ... But I have it in my name now and hpi etc was clear.
I renewed all brake discs and pads too.
Easy car to work on really, modern engineering and all that. Was astonished how light the gearbox is ... Shows how agricultural a TVR is by comparison!
Ahem ... But then anyone on this forum would know that right? I'll get my coat!
