That's a whole load of dosh for sure!! Might go for around £50k which would still be a good margin for the dealer and a sign of strong residuals for us all!

My S54 has slightly less mileage than this one, but twice in the last few weeks people have mentioned "shell bearing" issues on low mileage cars. I must admit I'm a complete numpty when it comes to the technical side of cars (just love to drive them), can anyone shed light on this? Assume it's an age perishing issue rather than usage that causes this?

I know I should post under technical section, but I'm starting to worry now!!

I was about to buy this today but I wouldn't go above £40k and even then I think the value was high. Sytner bought it today at £41,500.

My biggest issue over the last 1 month of working with the owner was the SH. It has had a total of 3 services. A running in on time, another in 2005 3 years (10k) later and then an inspection 2 in May 2016. I suggested an engine check was carried out before I parted with money which they didn't really do. I suspect shell bearing issues and had budgeted on changing them as part of the pre-sale prep.

11 years without a service and use is too long and serious detracts away from the value and at £56k is madness.

The interesting and misleading aspect of this sale is it seems to be Sytner Select who are selling it (NOT Leicester BMW) as obviously the warranty would not be valid.

For the first year BMW used the Coupe and then an older gentleman for the remainder.

I would recommend anyone buying any S54 Coupe to get the bearings replaced if there is no evidence of them already being changed as its not worth the risk and to factor the cost into any purchase. I think a company the size of Sytner would not be misleading about any

warranty they are advertising on their for sale adverts. The first price Sytner usually put up is clearly very high but we have seen the prices come down if the cars do not sell quickly so I would think you could get this car much less than the £56k it is advertised for.

I think the problem with many of these low mileage cars with a lack of serving is down to BMW themselves and the way the service indicator works and it should have been made much clearer that the cars should be serviced every 24months regardless of miles driven saying that
I would not be put off by a lack of servicing (running in service is a must) but I would expect to spend some money on a car like this in respect of new fluids and general check of rubber hoses and suspension parts.

The advert is from a angled like it is bring sold by a BMW main dealer, not Sytner Select.

Yep, do the Shell Bearings, not much relatively to do.

My shell bearings (and the rest of the engine) are fine and pushing 240K miles.
Regular use, mechanical sympathy and frequent oil changes are key IMO.

Lower mileage cars suffer more than higher - as more frequent oil changes and use is as stated key.

Hence my hesitancy in buying this car with an 11year service gap. (I don't see many astute buyers being happy with that and the colour is so divided in opinion.

A £800 odd well spent if you ask me. £6/8k if they spin.

Can we let anyone interested in buying this coupe to make up their own minds as to the service history, we appear to be having a conflict of interests regarding some of these cars for sale and I don't think its fair for the sellers or potential buyers.

I have stated the SH, no conflict of interests there. The discussion has been lead off topic regarding shell bearings.

                    Wow.

Amazing how mileage really talks and service history doesn't impact it.
Agree with you Dave regarding the mileage but surely it's time sensitive as well and the previous owner must have been utterly clueless not to have serviced it.

Having said that, he sold it for £41.5k so it's someone else's problem now.

You know I agree with this completely Dave. As a forum we have to be careful what's posted by members.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion of course, but if members feel that they want to share information that could potentially affect a dealer or private sellers business, then it would be wise to share that by private message rather than posting it publicly.

Exactly. Nothing is confidential here. Just helping fellow forum members which means more to me than greedy Sytner. I also feel for the sellers who for this was not an easy sale to make.

Couldn't agree more with Dave & Fat Tony but if there's a duffer about for sale that the seller is knowingly diguising or holding back info on and someone on the forum knows that, then post away for all to see!
There's no excuse for that as far as I'm concerned, especially after being caught up buying a clocked car from an organised criminal gang when I was younger. The car was the last to slip through the net before the police, who had been following the gang for months, implemented a sting operation. A few days later and I wouldn't have been caught up in it. The group, formed of about 8 people had clocked hundreds of cars and run insurance fraud scams to a total of £2million (that the police knew about). The car, a Golf Mk4 was spotless, with no signs of wear to interior, bolsters or anywhere else on the bodywork/underneath - being a rep mobile. Even the VW dealership and police agreed it looked as though it had done the advertised 47k but the mileage was actually 256k.... A week after buying it the turbo went bang, other problems soon followed.

Post away if dodge, if a niggle such as with this car and its service history then you're right, it's really up to the buyer to check and inspect, rather than potentially causing problems for the seller - who isn't hiding anything as far as I can see.
