    I have been meaning to get this done for a while but read over on the BMW car club forum about someone having this done at the moment, the company used is in Blackburn

    I've been using Blackstone for ages: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

    Doing it every 2nd oil service to get the data. Any bearing shell issues can be seen there before engine goes boom, so it is indispensible for any used ///m engine...

      Could you scan an old report in so we can see what type of information it gives you?

        Sure, below is a report with 3 columns: current results, averages for engine type, and previous results.

        This was for my brother's S54 z4MC in 2010. The first test (previous) was reading very high on copper and lead which pointed out connecting rod bearing problem, famous on S54 as well as S50 engines. At low mileage of 86k km this was the only reason to pull the pan and replace those shells. Otherwise it was a matter of miles when shells would rotate and destroy block/crankshaft. That report literally saved this engine - 20$ very well spent.

        Current results are post bearing replacement.

          This is in interesting, especially in the wake of the bearing she'll thread.

          To keep it simple, how much is it to get the analysis we would want to diagnose this potential issue?
          2002 '52 S54 - Titanium Silver with 18" BBS LMs, AP Racing BBK, KW V3, H&R anti roll bars & ACS flippers (previously 2000 'X' S50 - Arctic Silver)

              Thanks for posting that. It makes interesting reading. I wonder if any assembly lube (like ARP lube if you use their rod bolts) could contaminate the results. Obviously this would be reduced if the oil was changed after a run in/bed in procedure.

              Also is the average for all S54 engines they have ever inspected? They must hold a pretty large database to cover the many, many manufacturers engines out there.
