  • Strange locking issue

So was at work today and had a call from my brother to tell me that the alarm kept going off intermittently on the Z3m.
Came home and thought the battery is probably low so thought I’d take it for a drive for a recharge.
Now the car unlocks on the fob but does not lock. This is with both keys.

    What could be the bugbear?

If it won’t look by the fob then I think it must think something isn’t shut - a door, bonnet etc. Bonnet switch is normally the prob I think.

If should still lock if the boots, bonnet or passenger door are open. The only one that won’t allow it to lock is if the drivers door is open.

Check the interior light, if it doesn’t go out with the drivers door closed it’s that switch that’s your issue.

Ok I have just noticed that the drivers window doesn’t drop down or go up ever so slightly automatically when you open and close the door. It seems to have dropped down and does not seem to go up the final few milimetres when shutting the door...

As previous sounds like your drivers door switch.

So I charged the battery up and the car locked as it should. The window dropped and raised itself as it should. Until about 10 minutes later the alarm started going off and surprise surprise the window going up and down when opening the door stopped again...

Sounds like a dodgy door switch to me - moisture possibly in there and intermittently failing...?

To check the drivers door switch just open the door and press the little button that is part of the black plastic striking plate on the B pillar.....with the ignition on you should be able to hear it make the relay click, if its working.

Sounds like it's the battery to me, if when charged it all worked correctly. I would See what voltage you have on the battery.
