  • Wheel damage! Ouch & help please

Well just swerved to avoid some idiot about to pull out on me and hit a section of pavement on the dual carriageway at about 80mph!! See damage below.....
Does anyone know a good split rim firm that could straighten the rim and refurb it afterwards? The like of spit and polish do not touch split rims which limits me somewhat. I have been referred to A1 Wheels in Wolverhampton who say they can fix it circa £200-£220

Fortunately if you can call it that, there is no vibration from the car so hopefully the only damage is to the outer rim and not the wheel centre or suspension etc.
    Can anbody please suggest alternatives?

    The damage :

    Sorry to hear this mate,

There are a few split rim places that advertise on ebay. I have found them when looking for replacement rim/bolts etc for old BBs's. Some of them look very competent. I seem to remember 1 called "split rim clinic"??

Hope you get it sorted with minumim fuss.

    regards

    Dave.

I would avoid these guys and use a company called

The Polisher, Mike has a wealth of experience in this field.

I'd buy a new rim, a repaired bent rim would not be for me.

I stuffed 2 on my old Alpina after hitting a large plank in the outside lane at full chat. Took the front tyre off. Repairing them would have always left me with doubts. What made it worse was the rims were only 2 weeks old after BMW replaced the originals under warranty.

Nasty - although if you want to see what a really badly damaged alloy looks like I'll post a pic on my offside rear in a few days.

              Good luck getting it sorted.

Don't want to make it worse, but i'd deffinately be binning that tyre as well by the look of the tear in it!!!

is it a 3 pcs split wheel? in case yes, you should be able to order the outer rim separately and just bolt it on, after that shall be like new

From the pictures I would say it's quite easily fixible. Assuming the tyre is still holding air then the bead is probably not damaged but just the outer lip which is almost superficial to the wheel. These kind of alloys are better quality aluminum compared to the cast ones like the OEM wheels and are softer so they should straighten out much easier.

Also just found through a mate who races S2000s a local chap who has full lathing/milling machine capability and proper polishing equipment etc. Hopefully will see him tomorrow as am to embarassed to get the car out of the garage sporting damage like this!!
Will update and advise on my progress.....

P.s. wish I could put the sh#t who pulled out on me through the bloody milling and polishing process....bastad
