  • My Z3M Coupe 5.7 V8……..It’s nearly finished.

I’ve been having a V8 breadvan built and it’s nearly done!
Built by Tyre Torque in Birmingham who specialise in LS derived V8 conversions.
He’s already done loads of FD3 RX-7’s, a Z3M Roadster and an E36 M3 and does an exceptionally neat professional conversion.

Mines the small LS1 V8 at 5.7 litre so it’s been tuned to ensure some good figures………similar engines he’s built to this specification have produced a very reliable 450 – 500 bhp depending on the dyno.

The 6.2L LS3 powered Z3M Roadster that he built is an awesome road car and after driving that I was smitten and bought a tidy Coupe the next day as a donor!

The all alloy LS1 V8 is much lighter and shorter than the pig iron S50 that came out and although the Tramec 6 speed box is heavier than the BMW unit, it sits centrally in the car so should aid balance………The overall engine/box package is still lighter than stock but I won’t have an overall weight saving on the whole car until it’s on the road. I had it on a weighbridge before the project started and stock it was 1420kg with ½ tank of fuel.

Chassis, suspension and braking have all been improved to cope with the extra power so hopefully it should light my lamp!

I’ve never liked the S50/54 power delivery in Z’s or M3’s as I love V8 grunt so now I’ve got the best of both worlds………MC looks and charm with monster torque!

I’d upload some pics of the build if I could resize them small enough to attach without them being pixelated.

    each to their own.

no doubt the quality of the work is excellent, and you are pleased with the result...

...i don't wish to appear ungracious, but is anybody else here uncomfortable with inserting a General Motors V8 into a thoroughbred German classic ?

Is this a ruinous act of egocentric self-indulgence ??

I see your point to a degree but keep it in perspective, it's a 10 year old BMW Z3.........I haven't just murdered a 964 RS Clubsport!

The said builder of the car gets a negative reaction from the rotary purists with his own LS7 powered RX-7............Until it smokes 'em!

Can't see the problem if you have a donor with a knacked engine as a start.

COULD BE INTERESTING. I DON'T THINK THAT ANY PICTURES WILL ACTUALLY TELL US MORE THAN YOUR DESCRIPTION. PERHAPS SOME PERFORMANCE INFO WHEN IT'S ON THE ROAD OR TRACK???

This is something I would like to do to mine

I posted pictures in an old thread of the Z3M Roadster's conversion, if it's as tidy as that it will be a very nice conversion and give it's power advantage back over the modern hot hatches and diesels that are now almost as quick as the Z3M.

You say it has a Corvette engine in it instead

There was nothing wrong with the S50.............apart from being gutless and heavy with two cylinders missing It got sold on to offset some costs.

You see..........Even BMW themselves have seen the light finally and gone over to the V8 darkside in the M3!

The LS series motor is easy to source, lightweight, with an abundance of readily available tuning parts and ultimately is very affordable V8 big power.

This should be a fairly well specced and sorted car with decent chassis, suspension, brakes and power all for around £20K done, including the donor car...............I reckon that's a bargain.

What is it with you Midland boys and your V8 conversions! Friends of a friend up there have stuck them in everything from Escort cossies to E30 M3's.

Good on all of you, you sure do build some interesting cars and generally put your money were your mouths are and get them done.

                      Get some pictures up.

Do you have the specs for everything other than the engine?

Very nice, no added weight, lots more power & NA.

Looks like a good quality conversion.

Shame about having to use a corvette gearbox, horrible shift action.
