  • Koni Suspension kit

    http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pag...oduct=15258394

Anyone have any experience/heard anything about these?

Good offer on at the moment. I know Koni Sport Shocks are highly regarded, but in my experience (E36s/E46s) most people buy the shocks for use with Eibach springs (very good combination).

I don't really want to spend much more than the price of the kit, so I'm tempted to try the kit, with the Koni springs too.

Wondering if anyone knows what the ride height would be like, and whether the springs would be ok, or if they really are best substituted for some others (H&R, ACS etc).

These dampers will work well with stiff springs as you can adjust the rebound to match, but without that the rear will be soft. The rear Konis are very soft on "bump".

The fronts are also inserts so need to cut up your existing damper struts.

KW V1 for the MC comes with Koni dampers for the rear with adjustable rebound. They are absolutely DREADFUL!

      Don't touch them!

Thanks for your input fellas, although mixed!

I've heard bad things about the BC coilovers, so for the money, I won't be going for them.

The problem I've found with the Z3M setup is the rear feels too soft; I think the design of the rear suspension needs to be relatively softer than other setups (eg the newer z-axle) to maintain some level of ride comfort/traction. However it always feels like it's squatting and needs stiffer springs. However, with adjustable dampers yo ucan dial this out a little (bump adjustment) but I think KW V3 are one of the few dampers than do this.

SPAX and AVO dampers adjust in a linear fashion both bump and rebound together but the bump is always some way off the rebound level (1:3 ratio), so when you try to get the bump fairly stiff the rebound is far too stiff and it starts jacking down/hopping. I had some AVO dampers revalved so the bump ratio was closer but they made a mess of them and they were never right (the bump became far stiffer than the rebound despite damper graphs).

All the aftermarket springs are quite soft and there must be a technical reason for this, I can only guess it's the rear suspension layout, but I think they could be a good deal stiffer without making the ride to uncomfortable or give traction issues on bumper roads.

Koni dampers are usually spot on for quality, and the bump rate is *less* of an issue if you're running suitably stiff springs, as the rebound is usually the most important setting [to match the springs] IMO. It's funny becasue the KONI adjustable dampes for the rear of my 205gti are rock hard and almost impossible to compress off the car; the mounting location design on the car does account for this a little bit but I can still only running them on the softest or next setting up. Any more than that and the suspension becomes solid and the car just hops.
