  • Outdoor Temperature Sensor & Mount

    Hi,

My outdoor temp sensor & mount has disintegrated.

I understans BMW no longer list the part.

    Has anyone identified an alternative?

Does anyone have a picture of the mounting bracket? I can't find the part on RealOEM.

    Thanks in advance!

vdo does an outside temperature sensor for their gauges but I don't think anyone has tried one yet (connector is different) company in the States sells what looks like an alternative but have no idea if it works,

Is anyone able to make a measurement of their temp sensor?

All you need is a multimeter (and a working temp sensor).

If anyone can lend me a working sensor I can measure it.

I dissembled the remains of my sensor, and measured the resistance of the thermistor directly.

                I have measured

1450 ohms in icy water (circa 4c)
                650 ohms room temp
200 ohms on top of the aga (i'd guess 40-50c)

This is a reasonable match for VDO Thermistor 92-027-119.

VDO part no. for temp sensor: 323-805-017-002C

This part is sold as a coolant temp sensor. Original part has 120c maximum. 323-805-017-002C is 130c max.

                https://vdo-webshop.nl/en/temperatur...002C&results=1

                €20.

                I hope it works...

Am I reading the specs right on the link? Seems to only read +40 to +120 but will operate in temps of -40 to +130

I imagine that'll relate to the range within which the error is smallest. The part is optimised for coolant temperature monitoring, and therefore has smallest error 40-100 c.

I have ordered one for testing.

Part arrived today. I've given it a quick test. It's measuring within a couple of degrees of actual temp.
Close enough by my book. Can't imagine the original part can be much better.

                      Part no is: 323-805-017-002C

Comes with the correct connector, plugs straight in to existing loom. The device is fractionally longer than the original.

                      edit,
i looked again today. Within 0.5-1 degree of measured air temp. pleased with that.
