  • MOT Fail on headlight aim

Had the MOT today- she failed on Headlamp aim too high and too far to the right (nearside).
Apparently the adjusters were not doing anything.
1- can I pop out the headlight without removing bumper etc to take a look? might something have popped off etc?
2- Any other thoughts please guys?

Yes you can. They're held in with 4x 8mm bolts, deqd easy to take out. They can also be used to adjust the headlight

I always find it a bit unfair to expect us to come back to it adjusted headlights, when we don't have the kit.

I suppose they want you to pay an hours labour for it!

No they are happy to adjust during the test- the adjusters did not work. I have ordered a set of adjusters. I will whip the headlamp out and see what is what

I had a similar issue at my last MOT. On mine the adjuster wheel would turn but it had not change the beam. Have a look at this thread if your sounds similar.

I just sprayed it with WD40 and used some pliers to make the adjustment, just made it slightly lower, they will not fail it for being too low, only too high.

I then glued the adjustment wheel back on and it works fine now

Thanks guys for all the advice. Took the headlamp out and managed to free up the adjusters. I refitted it and took her back for a retest. I was able to adjust the left/right by reaching in and turning the metal spliced bar with my fingers.
The up/down still had the cogged wheel firmly attached- so i flicked it round with a screwdriver.
so headlight adjusted and MOT issued.
