  • SRS Codes

The Coupe had aftermarket steering wheel which I replaced. SRS light was on before & after I replaced it. Also car has had both doors resprayed at some point in its life.

My local indy has installed my replacement SRS control module, which seems to work perfectly. However it has given are a series of error codes which the garage cannot clear. They are:

    Code Fault
1 firing circuit, driver airbag, Stage 1
0D Firing circuit, head airbag, Stage 2
    81 Satellite (MRSA), front left
    84 Satellite (MRSA), front right

Does anyone have a suggestion on what the steps are to resolve these. Is there a common electrical component/fuse that might be the cause?

    Cheers,

    Shane

I presume your car is a post 04/99 with 2 stage system from the fault codes. I assume you fitted a 2 stage wheel. Those codes are what you get when the wheel airbag is not connected so implies not fitted correctly or you would have to narrow down the fault (ie check the wheel, bridge the circuit to test its working etc.....) Obviously being an explosive device its not something I would be comfortable doing (it was scarey enough fitting another wheel lol)

I'm not sure about the last codes but left/right implies either seat belt pretensioner or side airbags (if fitted).

I have a peak SRS code reader and reset tool but its 30 miles away in the boot of my Z. If anyone else has one of those there is a manual giving all fault code descriptions.

      Hi Jonttt,

The car is 2000 with 2 stage system. There are side airbags, so I think the MRSA refers to those.

mmmm it would be unusual / unlucky to have totally unrelated faults on two seperate circuits of the SRS system (ie drivers airbag and side airbags) so I would suspect the common factor which is the control unit.

Edit: just rereading your OP I would check there are actually airbags fitted as there was a case recently of a roady were the new owner found they were missing (he had some loose trim and when he took it off no airbag and the light had been removed from the dash!).If the cars had a side impact and side airbags deployed ............+ the new wheel may have been fitted incorrectly or they are old codes from the non OEM wheel that should have cleared, I think you need to do some more digging..........

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep on looking into it.

Do you know if the side airbags were replaced with the new doors? (assuming they were deployed)

              Hi,

I spoke to an airbag specialist this morning. He told me that the errors are down to the replacement SRS module not being wiped & continuing to search for it's former airbags (from 2 stage S54). Errors are not from deployed bags, thank God!

So the replacement unit now needs to be mated to my car & re-calibrated (to 2 stage S50). As he explained the process: the module picks up my car's VIN via OBD, it is then reprogrammed using BMW airbag management software to perform as it should with my vehicle's VIN. He's coming over next Saturday to resolve - hopefully!

Edit to my earlier post - one door was resprayed in November '07, not two.

Makes sense ie its the common control unit thats causing the problem, he sounds as though he'll get it sorted for you
