Hmmm, so it seems that some places do check the valve tolerances at both Inspection I and II, while others only at Inspection II.

I'm happy to have them checked for the peace of mind anyway. You know what I'm like for worrying about things

I worry all the time as well. Today on the way to work I asked my girlfriend do you here that noise?

She said I was crazy lol as one of our dogs in the back moved on the their cover and I was panicking!!

(Yes we put both our dogs in the boot and bring them to work)

It certainly won't hurt, just makes it an expensive job for peace of mind!

If you check the service book it should be in there after the stamping pages - shows lots of dots for what each service covers. In my S54 book its under Inspection I as something like "check valve clearances and adjust if necessary" and then Inspection II says, "same as Inspection II" plus I think spark plugs and diff oil for the MC.

Not at all, mate. I've been using Autohaus Diagnostics, over in York. I've found cheaper BMW indies in Leeds, but I've been really impressed with Craig and Mike - a really nice setup and 2 honest chaps that I'm more than happy to leave my pride and joy with

Chopper has used them recently as well, and when I phoned to book mine in last week, they had another MC for service too.

                    Thanks Tony

ALways good to know of recommended alternatives.

I've been using GC Motors in Harrogate. I've been impressed with their service and knowledge which inspires confidence and the array of all sorts of exotica in their workshop adds to their credibility. But they are not especially cheap !

                      Good to know thanks Col.

By way of a comparison on price, Autohaus Diagnostics have quoted "just under £500 including VAT" for Inspection I (with valve clearance check), replacing the transmission fluid with (supplied) Amsoil MTF and replacing the VANOS seals/bolts/filter with (supplied) kit, while giving the car a thorough check over.

                          Thanks for that ^

I rang them but felt more comfortable with JMW in Truro and another coupe owner uses them :)

Bit of a rant now chaps:

How much should a front wheel a alignment cost 30,40,50, 60?

                              100?

                              Nope 220 plus

Looks like you have been charged for the BMW four wheel alignment - only problem is that there is no adjustment on the rear for the MC so you have been "had"!
