  • Bump......oh dear

RUsh hour this morning had someone not as awake as he might have been bump into my rear bumper.

Didn't quibble about fault etc. at the roadside and only looks like superficial damage to the lower bumper although looks like it's slightly out of alignment with the rear left quarter panel above it where it connects at the wheel arch.

Insurers have processed claim this morning - no injuries, no hire car needed as it drives ok (although not looked underneath it). - but I'm wary of running with their preferred bodyshops.

Have already confirmed I'm able to go to bodyshop of my choice. I'm in the Basingstoke area of Hampshire. Any recommendations for a good place to use?

I'm expecting a bumper off respray rather than spot repair .

    Cheers

I've often wondered if a rear end shunt could be enough to damage the subframe?

Not trying to scare you but might be worth checking..

yep i would be getting it FULLY inspected at the cost of the other insurer, to make sure no other damage is present.

and if it is just the bumper, a full respray should be good enough.

few people on the M3 forums have used this guy: http://www.imagination-creations.co.uk/contactus.htm

i havent, but was looking to do so with one of my other cars (but havent yet!)

        Thanks guys

Just had the brake fluid & coolant servicedone at CPC. He's not got a paintshop set up though andbusy.

Car was a little squirmy this afternoon on way home but could just be the new tires, rubbish Tarmac and cold temperatures

Going to see Specialised Paintwork tomorrow morning for starters.

Will talk to them about the subframe. Have got a note of the BMW place Andrewturner used as well in case it gets a bit silly and I need to argue BMW speciliat only. Bet my premium goes up by stealth even though not my fault. At least no one was hurt.

I got hit from behind at some traffic lights 6 years ago - and just checked the estimate I got at the time - £1173 + VAT. Visually, it justed looked as if the bumper had moved slightly, but it involved £315 labour, £130 paint and parts of £727 - the largest of which were rear bumper cover (the bumper itself?) £327 and the rear bumper carrier £155. The rest were attachments, dampers, spacer and lamp seals.
