To drain the tank the easiest way is to disconnect the fuel pipe on the fuel filter under the passenger seat floor and put the ignition on, the pump will just pump it out. And it pumps it out fast so make sure you have a nice container to collect it!

With the rear axle removed, I thought I'd take advantage of the improved access to carry out some rust prevention/remediation work. There is a little rust on the inside of each sill / where the axle beam mounts.

Stripped off the paint/filth, lifted seam sealer. Treated with POR 15.

Passenger side sill to be done next..

After inspecting trailing arms, it was apparent that one of the rear ARB mountings was very slightly bent. I straightened it out, made up some reinforcing tabs and welded them in.

Next step for the axle parts is blasting / powder coating and re-assembly.

Plan to get the new diff bracket welded in to the car next weekend.

Rear axle and diff mounting overhaul has been taking a while.

beam and rtabs all blasted and painted.

The troublesome diff mount has been replaced with the heavy duty BMW repair part - this is a substantial improvement on the original design.

Fitted purple poly bushes to the beam.

          New rubber everywhere else

Healthy dose of preventative anti corrosion work done.

          Diff is away for refurb...
