Car currently in for what I had assumed would be straightforward MOT with local BMW specialist. Failed due to 1. near side front shock absorber leaking oil and 2. off side front spring snapped/broken. Spring on the near side also apparently corroded so told them to replace both springs and the broken shock absorber.
Then got a call to say off side front shock top mount is corroded and in movement the bearing assembly is seized. They assume the other one will need replacing too. So new pair of mounts needed. Extra £140 ish.
Then a further call to say while removing near side front shock, two bolts have snapped off "due to corrosion and fatigue", one within the lower shock absorber assembly area and one for the ABS sensor location area. Needs a new hub assembly, extra £200 ish.
I am a bit concerned about bolts snapping off, as they may not be taking enough care. Although possibly they are just doing the best they can with rusty 20 year old suspension. I usually use Munich Legends for bigger jobs like this, and so a bit out of my comfort zone. What do you think?
