  • Emigrating to Oz so my coupe has to go

For sale is my 1999 S50 BMW Z3 M Coupe in Estoril blue, it’s done just under 87000 miles and is in really excellent condition. Don’t really want to sell it but I’m emigrating to Australia and it won’t fit in my suitcase.

It was made in April 1999 so has cheap tax, about £175 and I’ve owned for just over 4 years. I’m the third owner and have really taken care of it. It had a full BMWSH when I got it and I’ve only taken it to BMW Specialists so mechanically it’s top notch. Still on the original vanos and it’s never missed a beat yet. It’s never taken over 4K revs until it’s warmed up and always run on Tesco 99 Ron or Shell V-Power. It was serviced in May (Inspection 2) plus it had the aircon pump replaced so it’s icy cold again. It currently has 4 of its service lights on so it’ll be nearly a year till the next oil service is due.

Body work and wheels are in excellent condition, I had the back wheels refurbished less than a month ago. The interior is grey and black rather than the normal blue and black and all the leather is in great condition too. All four tyres have loads of tread on them and the toolkit plus first aid kit is all present and correct.

I’ve kept all the bills so there’s plenty of history too.

    All the usual features:
    · Electric windows
    · Remote central locking
    · Electric heated seats
    · Electric heated mirrors
    · Power steering
    · 4 Airbags
    · Original stereo
    · Air Conditioning
    · Boot cover
    · Dog / Luggage guard

    Plus

    · Harman Kardon speaker upgrade (speakers in the roof and sub in the boot)
    · Original 6 disc changer in boot
    · Mini cargo net in passenger foot well
    · Cruise control (rare option)
    · Sun roof (or moon roof as bmw sales people call it)

The car’s been on the front cover of Evo magazine in the Ultimate M Car shootout and also featured in Total BMW magazine. The car is registered on the z3mcoupe.com register and you can also read about my ownership experience here:

Take it with you - they are very rare in Oz.

I took a classic from England for my 5 year stint in the late '9os. Importing not a showstopper.

        Off to Sydney hopefully

Had thought about exporting it but need the cash and actually quite fancy a holden, maybe the Oz equivalent of the VXR8 Bathurst S.

Depending on how the import duty works out, you might do better taking it with you and selling locally. They seem to be extremely rare down under. You should talk to AussieZ3 as he has had to import both a couope and a roadster over the past couple of years as there weren't any available locally. I know Aussie had to have his dismalted before shipping, but it may be different if you're emigrating.

          Si.

            Done it......

Bought mine out this year, clearing the docks in April. Rare as hens teeth here as others say, I beleive 2 dozen on the whole continent, less whatever have been permanently disabled over the last 10 years!
All up costs, given we had a container for furniture anyway and the coupe fitted in the spare space, was $8500Aus. I did all the paperwork and local registration stuff myself, not brain-snappingly difficult but a bit of a phaf with Quarrantine, Customs and state rego to deal with separately. Insurance was a bit tricky, as the regular companies don't have it in their lists, but Shannons looked after me no worries.
Holden V8s - loads of power of course (as much as 315kw if you tick the right boxes) but somewhat common with all the plastic. You will be horrified at the price of anything Euro as import taxes are crucifying, but 98RON is only 60p a litre.....
If you re-consider, have any mods you want done before you leave - that stuff is 2/3s the price in UK as here.

            Best of luck!

I saw one of these for sale in Oz when I was there

it was an S50 up for $67,000 AUS.

Dont know if the seller got anywhere near that, but any nice fast cars are a massive and I mean MASSIVE increase over UK prices

Check M3 and Porker prices on one of the Aus online car sales sites for further info
