  • My Series 1

It feels like quite a long time since I sold my MC and since then my 320d was having to fill the gap...it struggled! Now that's been replaced by this, a shiney new 135i with DCT 7 speed gearbox. Was more than a little concerned that the auto would ruin a great car but it suits it perfectly, the torque means it sits in 7th a lot of the time and the paddles in manual mode are full-on xbox! lol

I went for USB, privacy glass, pro radio and xenons as options. Also done a few mods of my own...I'll see if you can guess!

Your mods? BMW Performance Grills + Lowered on coils or springs

Looks awesome mate. I love the 1's, and the 135 has been touted as the 'new' E30 M3 - small, balanced, fast, and a hoot to drive.

My brother has the 130 3-door and the N54 is a very nice lump. Twin turbos on that must be immense!

He has the BMW Performance carbon airbox and exhaust on his - both I can recommend. The exhaust especially.

Keep us posted with what you do with it.

Ahh, yes, if this was bought new it will be.

Still, both are based on the NA N54, which in terms of output vs weight, is the most powerful NA engine per kg that BMW have ever made. That may be by any manufacturer actually, I'll have to check.

Actually the turbo's (N54) are based on the alloy block of the previous gen M54 engine.

The N52 2.5i and 3.0i NA have the magnesium/alloy block and were mentioned by BMW as being particularly light for a six.

Looks great, quite fancy one at some point!

Well spotted You missed the spacers though ;)

The performance exhaust for the new engine isn't out yet but given how vocal the standard exhaust is it must be awesome. I've done the 'golf tee' mod which stops the vacuum hose closing the exhaust butterfly under 3000rpm, certainly notice the burbles more now.

I love the fact that the 1 series coupe is the unusual choice (well, most people who are looking at a 135i would probably choose a 330i coupe instead)...a bit of the MC spirit lives on. It's not exactly light like an E30 though although the e-diff is surprisingly good at allowing fun on roundabouts and it feels quite nimble. Tempted to run a E92 M3 front ARB though to keep it a bit flatter in the twisties.

Really really like these, but many people not keen on them, it's hugely better than the hatchback for looks which just look a bit rubbish to me.

BMW UK had a fully fettled BMW Performance 135i Coupe a few months ago. Despite it costing the wrong side of £50K, I fell in love with its handling and power and nearly bought one but now waiting for the M 135i (M1?) next year.

Will make an excellent every day hack, not sure about the gearbox though?

                Apparently, other manufacturers do exist.....

Argh I've made myself look like a tool by getting the letter and number mixed up.

Yes - N52 is what I meat to type. I got mixed up, having both owned an E46 M54 and an E36 M52... Doh.

@Mike - Get rid of the e-diff and stick a Quaife in there if you want even more fun

I think Mike was running 20mm spacers all round in those pictures, and welcome to the forum!
