My original post and CSL example used was UK to Ireland. I should have been more specific to avoid upsetting the next potential presenter of BBC's 'Coast' TV programme. Sorry Wallachie.

And after looking in more detail, there appears to be a lot of conflicting information on various other forums about MOT's, TAX, HPI's etc when a car originally registered in England (must get it right) or Scotland, Wales, The Falkland Islands etc and ends up in Northern Ireland (must specify which Ireland here, North or South, and not just plain old 'Ireland" as my original post) and is then bought back again to England.

It seems far from straight forward, with tales of HPI reports not recording numbers of owners, accident history etc. So even though we are all one big happy 'UK' family, some countries within the UK have different rules... By Jingo! They'll be having different parliaments next....

Glad we've also established the colour of this car local to you, Wallachie!
And I always thought NI stood for National Insurance.
Well aren't you a very clever boy, are you a teacher? You sure sound like the kind of patronising pedant that would be.

I have bought and sold numerous cars between NI and GB over the years, and not once have I encountered a single problem, perhaps these things are just a little more difficult for some people to understand and deal with though.

When you have some direct experience on the subject, come back and tell us about it.

I brought a 2002 TD5 Land rover 90 back from NI (Northern Ireland!!), back in 2007. Whilst NI is part of the UK, there is a separate registration authority. When I re-registered it at DVLA, they recorded it as "first registered in the UK in 2007" and, as such, put it in the post 2006 highest emissions band for RFL. I argued with DVLA, until I was blue in the face, that NI was UK and so it was first registered in the UK in 2002, but failed to get any sense from them.

In the end I went to see my MP who wrote a letter to the Minister for Transport; he sent back a very apologetic letter & gave DVLA a clip round the ear!!
That is seriously unlucky, Limbs! I think that was more an issue of some useless pleb dealing with your case in DVLA though.

The registration process has been made much easier now that our DVLA offices are now properly linked.

There is nothing difficult in the slightest about bringing a car back from NI (Northern Ireland - just to be clear!). There are no costs involved, the registration details are directly transferable and the MOT, although different (in fact more rigorous in NI), is also valid in GB until it expires.

Admittedly I had muppetry issues with the DVLA, but that's par for the course - I was the proud owner of a red alpha 156 at one stage... Other than that, nothing complicated whatsoever. Seems like the most challenging aspect for some on here might be finding it on a map! Legface, if NI were governed under the same laws as the Republic of Ireland, recent UK history would have been far less dramatic...

And NI (Northern Ireland), as part of a "united Ireland", would be significantly poorer as part of the so-called "Celtic Tiger economy" and the rest of "mainland UK" would be significantly richer!

If Ulster (Northern Ireland), Scotland and Wales each had independence, their economies wouldn't last five minutes, with the likes of Gordon Brown and Fred Goodwin let loose, and their leaders would be looking for personal handouts from any evil despot willing to fill their own Swiss bank accounts. Soon, England would be surrounded on all sides by potential enemies and it would cost us even more on defence. It's an unfortunate fact that we need to keep the United Kingdom as it is, but there should be changes where only English MPs vote for things that affect England, only.

This would be good for our defence industry, and we would be able to afford free prescriptions for the English people.
