  • Quite Excited @ Getting MC back on the road!

Finally pulling my finger out and getting my M Coupe back on the road in the next couple of days... it's been parked up at work since August 2008 (when I bought the Forester STi) so I'm REALLY looking forward to driving it again!

Had a major upgrade done to the suspension whilst it was laid up in the form of the Ireland Engineering Camber & Toe adjustment plates fitted to the rear beam (will post in a separate thread). Not too bad to get done but it's quite involved in removing the beam and all the old stuff! Fortunately I had he guys at PowerStation helping so with their ramp and tools etc. it didn't take too long to sort.

This now means the car is low but the wheels are straight and level! I had it a little higher before (but still a lot lower than standard) and it just scrubbed the rear tyres in next to no time. With seriously reduced camber the tyres should last considerably better! I've not driven it AT ALL since this mod though so no idea what that's done to the handling... we shall see I guess!

I think it's been lowered a bit more since these pictures actually.

Have also just had a set of FK452's fitted and the wheels refurbished by my local alloy wheel specialist as well. They have done a superb job and I think the finish is indistinguishable from OEM, they go with a black before applying a bright silver so there is the lovely rich shading to the wheels.

I also intend to have a few little scuffs on the bodywork sorted out, sadly as a prelude to putting it up for sale but I intend to put a few more miles on it before it goes

Just getting insurance sorted now (it's around £550ish for me and the wife with no NCB as that's all on the Forester) booked in for MoT tomorrow afternoon and get it taxed Saturday morning... well that's the plan anyhow :)

    Your coupe looks really nice!

I have one question tough... regarding the rear camber. I also have a bit lowered MQP and find camber 'visually' very low, at least if compared to some other pictures (not to mentioned the high camber on ordinary z3 coupes that are lowered). If I recall correctly, I have it around 1 degree. I think this is quite appropriate for rear wheels. So how much camber did you set?

I'll have to dig the alignment paperwork out... the plates were fitted and it was aligned last June so I can't recall. I don't think we managed to get it to 0 but it did improve vastly from the camber it was running when lowered without the adjustment plates.

        Hi mate,

Always though a forester STI would be a great fun family car, what do you think of it?

LOVE it mate... possibly the BEST car I've ever had! Just does everything so easily and simply. A fantastic family car, load lugger and mile eater... with 330bhp and a really tall 6th gear it's so nice to drive.

Obviously I love the MC as well, but it's totally different... I found with the MC that you have to "drive" it no matter how short the journey or slow you were going. Not a bad thing, but day after day I found it a bit hard work so fancied something a bit bigger and comfy for everyday stuff.

I'm sure I will, though not having driven it for about 18 months I guess I'm over "missing it" and the only reason I didn't sell back then is the market just fell out of the bottom of the M Coupe prices and I knew I'd get a rubbish price... pleased to see they have picked up to around the same level as before the "crash" now though.

Quick shot just as I left work... one step closer as it's back on the ground with the battery charging :)

I saw your car in the corner at Powerstation whilst visiting Rich a few months ago Jon.

Glad to hear you're getting it back on the road.

I've checked mine rear camber and its actually 2,5 degrees, so it makes sense... It doesnt look visually that much, and dont know where it came to my mind I have around 1 degree... Thread wears a bit more on the inside, but I'm running 225 and therefore replace them very often so it doesn't bother me at all =)

Big day today... MC sailed though it's MoT and we're now back on the road

Needs a damn good clean now though, but really happy to have it sat back on the driveway... fat and low, just the way I like it
