My car is going in for sills etc to be painted this week and alloys are next on a growing list. Can I just ask what size centre caps go on the roadstars as I hadn't thought of buying them but it makes sense if the alloys are being done. Also, I've been quoted £90 per wheel for full powder coating/refurbishment. I've looked around a bit, but does that seem a good price in other's experience? I want to get a proper job done on them

Exactly the same place that my last ones went - around the valves and the wheel nuts. The wheels.corrode under the finish and eventually the paint peels.

I agree, the problem is those pictures are straight after I got them back from powder coating!

Martin, I would have rejected those, that's quite poor in those areas. That's the classic problem with powdercoating. It can be a great finish (although there's lots of orange peel too) but if they just blast them and powdercoat you get the ripply finish like they're coroding underneath where maybe it hasn't stuck properly.

I'll try and get some photos of the wheels I had done recently - they seem really good to me. They are blasted and prep'd before being spraypainted like the factory finish (ie not powercoated). They do use a clearcoat powercoat though for durability.

I've just had my OEM wheels re done at the 'wheel specialist' in Manchester.

After nearly 20 years the original finish had a few minor defects

The managed to get the correct colour

That looks really nice! How much were they to do?

I've used them before too - was impressed with quality of finish and level of service. I'd certainly go back.

Thanks. I get a trade rate so not sure really.

Cheers! I had previously painted my "track" set of wheels out of a can and the finish was ok but not fantastic. The problem was when I went to try and get them done properly in the same colour, the code I'd used for the spraycans was for a late 1970s Fiat and apparently there is no water-based formulation so the paint place scanned a wheel and came up with some close matches. The colour is slightly less goldy but I quite like it so hopefully they will look good on the car!

Is it the Wheel Specialist the place off Ashton Old Road?

I did think about using them but didn't get to quotations because I was put off by the "powder coating" as I believe the OE finish is painted, not powder coated, but I probably mis-read the procedure on their website. But offyourmark's photo looks spot on so I think must be painted.

                              Hi,

Would anyone happen to know the colour code and name for the S54 wheel colour?

Have given my car in and the specialist is suggesting to do them hyper silver which would be wrong :(

                              Thanks

There's no official name or colour as far as I'm aware

It's commonly known as shadow chrome for the s54

Wheel refurbishment people normally paint the rim black and then flash silver over to create the finish.
