1998 (S) BMW Z3M Coupe S50
Imola Red with Black and Imola Nappa leather interior
78400 miles
5 former keepers
History
Car was first registered on 16th October 1998 and is one of only 492 sold in the UK and one of only 48 Imola red S50s. She was a UK-launch press car (GAN reg) and comes with a huge folder of magazine articles from the time - a few of which feature this car back in 98/99. plus one recently piece in August 2017's Modern Classics magazine.
Full service history since I took ownership on 21st March 2014, with some service receipt history prior to that (2009-2014). However, the service book does contain all stamps including the all important running in record. During my ownership she wants for nothing and I've serviced at BMW specialists ETA Motorsport regardless of mileage and usage. Boot floor/diff hangers were checked by me and my specialist at purchase and found to be in good condition with no issues. Whenever I get the car serviced I also ask for a general health check on all known issues which to date have shown nothing but a good, solid and well looked after car.
Serviceable/Upgrades
As a press car I wanted to keep the spec as OEM as possible, so the only upgrades have been subtle. Everything I've listed below as serviceable items or general maintenance since I bought the car nearly 4 years ago.
- H&R ARB kit
- New rear sound insulation
- Throttle cable
- Braided clutch hose
- Stabiliser links
- Replacement [spare] key
- Jacking point rubbers
- Rear chrome tail handle and seal
- Front discs, pads and sensor (2014)
- Rear discs and pads (August 2017)
- Vanos seals
Stamped Service History
- Pre-delivery Inspection: 16.10.98 - 0007 miles
- Running-in Inspection: 22.10.98 - 1099 miles
- Oil Service: 21.01.99 - 8011 miles
- Inspection 1: 06.07.99 - 16,779 miles
- Oil Service: 12.03.01 - 24,154 miles
- Inspection 2: 11.02.02 - 31,295 miles
- Oil Service: 04.04.03 - 38,935 miles
- Inspection 2: 11.08.04 - 46,038 miles
- Brake Fluid: 28.12.06 - 50,286 miles
- Inspection 1: 19.05.09 - 60,525 miles
- Oil Service: 10.08.12 - 67,681 miles
- Inspection 2: 30.04.14 - 70,786 miles
- Oil Service: 13.05.15 - 73,912 miles
- Oil Service: 01.08.16 - 76,011 miles
Tyres
Running front ContiSports (lots of miles left) and the rear are Eagle F1's - one approx 1000 miles old, one will be brand new - yet to be fitted after a puncture on the back roads of Suffolk last December left me with budget Maxis tyre to get home with and I've not yet got around to changing it!
Exterior
She lives in a garage but is no means a garage queen, in that the paintwork isn't mirror perfect and there are the usual stone chips, swirls and areas you would expect on a nearly 20 year old car with original paintwork. But she cleans up lovely and when washed and polished looks incredible. The ///M stock style 40 RoadStar wheels were refurbished by the previous owner when I bought the car and clean up well.
Interior & spec
Black and Imola interior with standard OEM Harmon Kardon sound system and BMW Business head unit, plus the 6 x CD changer in the boot. Boot cover and dog guard all present and correct. The leather is in very good condition with no major scrapes or wear showing and the carpets and plastics are all in good condition. Rear outside temp gauge has never worked but is probably a corroded sensor, and the clock decides to keep time only when it chooses. Other than that all else works as it should.
Additional spec includes Heated Electric Seats, Air Conditioning, Tyre Pressure Control, Heat Insulating Glass, Front and Side Airbags, Tool Kit, OEM Tyre Kit, OEM Med Kit and Electric Tilting Moon Roof.
What the car lacks in early service receipts it makes up for in a fully stamped book and historic launch car provenance. I've only driven in good weather unless absolutely necessary or caught out, and in that gorgeous Imola paintwork she stands out from the crowd. I am constantly given the thumbs up by other motorists, asked by van drivers what it is or driven next to on the motorway for people to gawp at! I'll miss the sound, the driving experience and sheer raw presence the car provides me, but will forever be thankful I got to own a bucket list motor and used it for fun days out whenever I could.
The car will come with a full years MOT, all documentation, old MOTs and original paperwork, a lever arch folder full of reference and features plus 2 x sets of keys.
