  • Bonnet compatability

Winter project will be fixing the bonnet. Previous owner heavy handed and a few deep stone chips. Probably easier to buy a spare bonnet with no ripples and spray to colour.

I think all z3 bonnets are the same, but is this so? And is the quality good enough that fitting a replacement bonnet is straight forwards.

Supplementary question. Is there a colour code for the underneath blue for estoril exterior?

Yes all bonnets are the same for all models throughout the Z3 production. Alignment isn't too bad, the main issue is the size and weight of the bonnet, it's a 3-person job to get it bolted on. One on each side and another to hold the weight at the front whilst it's bolted on.

There are variations to the sound insulation, some have a big BMW logo, some don't, but you can always transfer your own.

Indeed, all the bonnets are the same from the first Z3 1.8 through to the last of the S54 M Coupes. Wrt fitment, as you'll know, it's a big ol' thing so is definitely a two or even three man job - there's an element of adjustability for fitment, so have a couple of guys hold it in place whilst another nips up the nuts n' bolts.

I believe that the engine bay is simply the same paint as the rest of the car but without the fully lacquered finish, (although there has been speculation that on the Estoril cars it's actually LSB in the engine bay but surely BMW wouldn't change paint just for the engine bay!)

Edit to add: Just seen this is pretty much what c_w just said - I started writing the post, got distracted by dinner, then clicked submit. Beef was nice!

S54 Black / Imola. S50 Titan / Black. And some bits from Stuttgart.

Does anyone know where to get the replacement sound insulation and clips from?

dealer only if you want a decent one - S50 version with BMW emblem is no longer sold only the thinner blank version.
